Happy Family Day + shopping :)

Interview outfit from head to toe -> complete! :D And not a week too soon. Like always, I did my homework before hand to narrow down my store searches because 1. I hate walking around the mall aimlessly, and 2. I need a mental picture of what I’m looking for (or else I get sidetracked).

I picked out a comfortable pair of classic black pumps from Naturalizer today. Although its navy pair was on sale for only $40, I still went with the black for its timeless quality. I’m content even with paying retail price. And with these pumps and CK pantyhose (~$5 from Winners), my interview outfit is complete!

Aside from those necessary purchases, I actually had some decent luck at Forever 21 today. I’ve been wanting to add some colour into my wardrobe recently so I consider this vibrant yellow-striped cardigan a super awesome find :D The cotton material is very soft and delicate with a hint of sheerness that reminds me of Gap knit sweaters. And at under 20 bucks, consider it bought!
Last but not least…
To all the wonderful families,
held together by the bonds of love and trust,
here’s wishing joy and happiness forever and always.
Happy family day!

Shut Up: Flower Boy Band episode 6 (pseudo review)

I’m hooked on Shut Up!!! *o* Well I’ve actually been hooked ever since the very beginning, but since episode 6 left such a deep impression on me, I just had to blog about it! And like what the title says, this is far from a comprehensive review, hence the term ‘pseudo’. It’s really more of me spazzing about my favourite scene and character from episode 6. So let’s get on with the high-pitched screams!
This episode was by far my favourite! It’s filled with bromance (yey!), romance, and rock n’ roll. What’s not to love? And can I just say I’m completely swooned by L’s character – Hyun-soo! He’s all about the icy stares and minimum outward emotions, but when he breaks loose, he’s volatile and explosive. I guess that’s what makes his character so awesome. You’re just never quite sure when he’s gonna fly off the handle!
Best scene? Definitely the on-stage bromance between Hyun-soo and Ji-hyuk. It was heart wrenching watching Hyun-soo play with a bloody hand and as soon as Ji-hyuk saw, he immediately stopped their performance and bear-hugged Hyun-soo! Awwwwww >_< It was so unexpected that it took me a second to realize what had happened. Laudable gesture from Ji-hyuk. He always puts people before everything else, which is what makes him an awesome leader. Unfortunately we won't get to see the aftermath of their stalled-performance until next week. Why can't Tuesday come faster!

Battling Stress

I always find myself feeling the worst on Mondays. Apart from reminiscing about the weekends, I think what accounts for most of my misery is the mountains of work that lie in the week ahead. It doesn’t help if mother nature is being moody like it was today (grey skies with intermittent blizzards)…

My schedule has gotten so packed lately that a To-Do list is no longer an organizational tool, but rather a source of migraines and restlessness. If I don’t find a way to bring down my stress level quickly, I may even under-perform (eek!) on my interviews. hmmm…I think it’s a good time for Yoga 101…

An addendum to my last post: I may have over-praised my immune system last night as I’m feeling extremely under the weather today. Whatever it is, I’m begging you to please leave before interview weekends…

Imagine. Believe. Achieve.

What a hectic month it has been so far! I’m surprised my immune system hasn’t given in yet to all the germs going around. Thank you fresh fruits and veggies! :9

I’ve been preparing for interviews since the beginning of February and it’s really eaten up most of my time (day AND night). Yes, I’m practicing in my dreams as well. Here’s hoping that I maintain my sanity through it all… On the flip side, I’ve had the opportunity to meet with some very bright and passionate individuals who share the same dreams as me – a humbling experience to say the least. I sincerely want each and every one of them to succeed, but at the end of the day, only a select few will. After all, we are all opponents of one another on the ‘battle field’.

Along with interview preparation comes the not-so-trivial question: “What am I going to wear?!” Thanks to Renin and her awesome fashion/med blog, I was able to formulate an ideal outfit in my head before frantically scavenging in every store of the mall. After only 1.5 hours (impressive by my standards), I walked out with a full piece skirt suit from Banana Republic. The only downside is that this ensemble costed me an arm and a leg… To make myself feel better and to justify the price (gah…), I promised myself that I will make this suit worth it! (i.e. nail the interview…i.e. MORE practice…i.e. goodbye sanity). Wish me luck! :)

The Night Shift by Dr. Brian Goldman

:: January Book Pick :: (in keeping with my New Year’s resolution of reading at least 1 book per month :D)

“The Night Shift is a wonderfully frank, highly informative and, most importantly, deeply humane exploration of one of medicine’s most challenging disciplines – emergency medicine. This book should be required reading for all trainees in emergency medicine, and it should be sitting in the waiting room of every hospital’s emergency department.” – Dr. Vincent Lam (author of Bloodletting & Miraculous Cures)

⌘ Thoughts:

In The Night Shift, Dr. Brian Goldman shares some of his most memorable experiences in the witching hours when he is on duty at Toronto’s Mount Sinai Hospital. Written in the first person, the stories are told so vividly that it almost makes you feel like as if you were shadowing Dr. Goldman during his shift. But he doesn’t stop there. He welcomes you into his mind, sharing invaluable thought processes that goes through an ER doc’s mind when patients come in for help. This is something I found extremely helpful and intriguing as an aspiring physician.

Unlike TV series (I’m thinking of Grey’s in particular), this book does not dramatize the ER experience in any way. On the contrary, it showcases a good balance between both seriousness and humour. At times, medical jargons are thrown out to illustrate a point, however, they are always followed by a brief explanation in layman’s terms. Keeping these dry facts to a minimal, Dr. Goldman has truly written a book for the general population to enjoy.
